The ultimate goal of any player participating in either the FFPC Footballguys Players Championship or Main Event is to take down the overall grand prize. With hundreds of thousands of dollars at the end of those rainbows, players want EVERY edge they can find to put themselves in a position to take down the big prize. Multiple entries, hoarding of rookies, contrarian draft strategies, and aggressive waiver wire bidding are aspects of these competitions.<\/p>\n
In this analysis, we\u2019ve taken a deep dive into the top 5 finishers in both the Footballguys and Main Event competitions from 2017 and 2018. We charted out the championship round rosters of all the teams that finished Top 5 Overall in both of those competitions in 2017 and 2018.<\/p>\n
The master chart that we compile will show:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Every player rostered on every top 5 finisher during the championship rounds (weeks 14-16)
\n\u2022 Where each player\u2019s performance ranked within their position during the championship rounds
\n\u2022 Which teams had rookies
\n\u2022 Which players were acquired via waivers
\n\u2022 A link to the draft board of every team’s draft (if drafted online)<\/p>\n
Beyond the chart, we get into an analysis of those teams.<\/p>\n
\u2022 How many rookies did they draft?
\n\u2022 What players were commonly owned (ie the \u201cleague winners\u201d)?
\n\u2022 What was the ADP of those league winners?
\n\u2022 Were the teams drafted Live or Online? (ie. Is online competition softer?)
\n\u2022 What draft slot did these winning teams get drafted from (applies to teams drafted online only as boards are not available for the live drafts, but it has ALL of the Footballguys)
\n\u2022 What is the retention of players by position for the winning teams (ie. How much of their initially drafted roster was owned all year?)
\n\u2022 How many of the rookies that were drafted were actually retained all year by these winning teams?<\/p>\n
While these data points won’t provide a map of how to win the competition, it’s interesting to note what the characteristics are of the teams that win (or come close to winning) it all.<\/p>\n
